I am an Accredited and Qualified Genealogist and Family History Researcher and have over 20 years’ experience working in archives for family history research. I started my own family history research back in 1993 and since that time have researched my own family back many generations with some branches back to the middle 1600s. I then decided to embark on a career in genealogy and family history and undertake work for clients.
Qualifications - I am committed to continuing my professional development and as such undertake many professional courses in specific areas of research to update my knowledge. I have completed the accredited Correspondence Course in Genealogy which was a comprehensive programme of study that I undertook over 3 years with the 'Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies'. This course covered all aspects of family history from basic records through to the more complex court records, manorial records and heraldry. Following an examination I was then awarded the Higher Certificate in Genealogy. I furthered my studies in genealogy and family history and in 2013 graduated from the IHGS (Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies) with the accredited Diploma in Genealogy (Dip Gen).
Professional Organisations - I am a full Member of AGRA ‘The Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives’ which is an association of professional genealogists. To become a full and approved member of AGRA you are assessed by the Board of Assessors on your quality of work as well as your business practice. On acceptance into AGRA you agree to abide by their Code of Practice. I am a Member of APG 'The Association of Professional Genealogists’ which is an association of professional worldwide genealogists and have committed to follow their Code of Ethics.
Society Memberships - I am a Member of The Society of Genealogists which is based in London, various Local Family History Societies, The British Association for Local History (BALH), The Guild of One Name Studies and The Society for One Place Studies.
The ICO - I am registered with the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office) under the terms of the Data Protection Act of 1998 and you can therefore be assured that your information is kept confidential at all times.
Customer satisfaction is achieved by offering a friendly and efficient service along with a high degree of methodical and precise research. I work with the client to ascertain what research they have completed already so that duplication of research already undertaken does not occur. I then liaise with the client to ascertain what research they would like undertaken. After the research is completed I compile a detailed report and include all original documentation found. Full citations of the sources used in the research are shown in the report. A family tree is included within the report where possible.
I offer bespoke research, house history research and also various family history research packages.
